Final Project: Maasai Mix

A collection of fashion accessories aimed for the contemporary western market. ‘Masai Mix’ has been inspired by Africa’s Masai Culture combining both traditional and tribal construction techniques with a western culture mix.

The Masai culture is the most traditional African tribe to date within the 21st century. The collection has captivated the influence of necklace adornment originated from Masai culture. Construction of tribal adornments provide to be tactile, traditional; colourful and distinctive the ‘Masai Mix’ collection has captivated the intricate powerful pattern of Masai fashion.

Heightened by the influenced of western influences of liquorish mix, the Inspiration and combination of both influences convey a mixture of traditional construction techniques. Conveyed with contemporary patterning and layering aesthetics ‘Masai Mix’ brings a vibrant collection of necklaces which combines both traditions of African culture heritage with a clash of western culture influence.

Techniques like crochet have been used throughout the project to explore the African culture. The main inspirations have come from the Kenya tribal Masai.
